Baton Rouge: A College Town and Beyond

Baton Rouge, French for "Red Stick", is the capital of Louisiana and its second-largest city. As the "Capital City", Baton Rouge is the political hub for Louisiana. It is also a major industrial, petrochemical, medical, research, motion picture, and technology center of the American South. Baton Rouge also houses the state's flagship and largest university, Louisiana State University, or LSU, a public, coeducational university with an enrollment of over 32,000 students. LSU is home to the famous LSU Tigers, who have won 11 Southeastern Conference titles, six Sugar Bowls, and three national championships. LSU is also known for its baseball, basketball, and gymnastics programs. If you're not a student, other attractions include the Mall of Louisiana, the amusement parks of Dixie Landin'/Blue Bayou, and Baton Rouge Zoo, which runs through The Recreation & Park Commission and includes over 1,800+ species.
